What is Radon?
Radon is a cancer-causing radioactive gas that you cannot see, taste, or smell. It comes from the breakdown of uraniun in soil, rock, and water. When you breathe air containing radon gas, you increase your chance of getting lung cancer. In fact, the Surgeon General of the United States has warned that radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States today. Incidently, if you smoke and your home has high levels of radon, your risk of lung cancer is especially high.
How is Radon Gas measured?
Radon is measured in picocuries per liter (pCi/L). The EPA states that you should take action to reduce your home's radon levels if your radon test result is 4 pCi/L or higher. CNY Home Inspection Services utilizes both passive charcoal and active continues monitor detectors to accurately measure your radon levels. These devices are read by an independent lab. In keeping with ethical business practices, we do not refer radon mitigators. We only provide the results of your radon test.
